Bettina Auer

Bettina Auer, ​born in Heidelberg, is living in Berlin. She studied musical theatre direction as well as musicology and German philology in Hamburg and Berlin. Besides engagements as a musical dramatic adviser and head dramatic adviser at theatres in Bern, Darmstadt, Basle and the Komische Oper Berlin she has supervised various productions and projects in drama and dance, developing numerous creations.

She has worked as a dramaturg and adviser, mostly freelancing, at Salzburger Festspiele, Opernhaus Zürich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Radialsystem and Berlin Philharmonic, Israel Festival, Lucerne Festival, Schwetzinger Festspiele KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, Schauspiel Köln, Vlaamse Opera, Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, Teatro Argentino, Teatros Canal Madrid, Nationaltheatret and Nørske Operaen Oslo, Bavarian Staatsoper Munich, Wiener Staatsoper, Burgtheater and Theater an der Wien.

Since 2009 she has worked regularly in collaboration with Calixto Bieito. Additionally, she has worked with Stefan Bachmann, Karin Beier, Calixto Bieito, Tatjana Gürbaca, Claus Guth, Jasmina Hadziahmetovic, Andreas Homoki, Barrie Kosky, Hans Neuenfels, Stefan Pucher, Joachim Schlömer, Nicolas Stemann and Michael Thalheimer.

Bettina Auer is a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin, at the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden. Since 1995 she has also been a regular freelancer for the Swiss radio station DRS 2.

She is currently working at the Opéra de Paris, where calixto Bieito and his team are about to stage Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen until November 2020.
